Same here. I had to low buy out of necessity this year because I left an abusive husband. But I am unable to face the low buy out of that reason alone. The real reason I had to take a hard look at my shopping was because I was using it to fill in feelings inside me.

Your writing is so soothing as well as helpful. Thank you for sharing your year with us and many hopes for a conscientious joyful year for us all!

Thank you! It takes a lot to look at ourselves openly and honestly and I hope we all find our own ways forward. I feel like there’s so power in saying, “nope, not doing this night now”.

If you ever wondered : what is the point of all this ? or all this ramble .... Know that I am on the receiving end of your words being helped by your thought process.

Thank you! Likewise, I’m always here for your thoughts and musings. :)

I love hearing others muse about their buying habits, what they bought, what they think about it all...so please, Lin, continue to ramble! (I'm a fellow rambler, could go on...).

I love your Dries dress - it's just stunning. I'm glad you have no regrets.

I'm in a transitional stage for clothes, being only a few years out from retirement, faced with a body that's changing shape on me (urgh), and my own thoughts and feelings about how I shop.

Thank you for the excellent article!

Thank you! I had a moment a few days ago when I was clearing out some old clothes I’d stored at my parents’ place, and it gave me a pang to see the size I used to be. Interesting how attached I was to that former image of me!

I was much smaller too. I remind myself that overall, I am happier now and it has nothing to do with my size, shape or weight. 💕 Wisdom wins over thinness.

Huzzah for a productive low-buy year! Thank you for sharing your insights. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts re: guardrails and wardrobe gaps. I find it so interesting that you consider shopping in person to be your weakness, but I get where you're coming from. It's easy to get carried away and you're forced to make quick decisions on the spot.

I, too, have thought about the number game; what does it really mean to buy a lot or a little, or to try to reach a certain number. There are times when it feels so arbitrary. I don't have any answers, but I've loved following your journey, and will continue to enjoy your writing in the new year. Happy holiday season, Lin!

Thank you! Numbers are pretty arbitrary but I guess it’s a place to start. I’m still undecided if they’re more harm than good haha. But I guess I’ll find out.

I’ve enjoyed and learnt so from you too. Here’s to a restful holiday season and an exciting new year :)

I love reading about your journey (this made me subscribe). It's so relatable and helpful to me when I'm trying to do a low buy. And nobody is perfect! I love hearing other people's thoughts and learnings as this helps me reflects on what makes me shop.

I'm deeply impressed that you don't have any regrets. This might be one of my goals for next year. I had 2 this year: a short sleeved oversized button up, that I bought for my fantasy vacation self and a sleeveless button up where the quality ended up beeing bad.

Thank you! I’m glad my writing resonated with you. It’s so frustrating to end up with clothes that don’t live up to their potential in quality—we feel responsible even though it’s not our fault that things aren’t made well!

Does anyone know of a group that is for people doing low buy? Seems there are a lot of people interested and support is always good!

I just happened to see this thread but it’s for paid subscribers only: https://open.substack.com/chat/posts/86952b11-815f-44a2-9897-16a4b0ffc650?utm_source=share

I reckon there are more out there and I’ll be keeping a lookout!

Gillian from uncomplicated stories does have a group for doing a low buy. She does ‘25’ items. I do also have that as a goal for myself. But you are offcourse open do make your own rules.
